Animoca Brands Appoints Drummer Jared Shaw As Chief Financial Officer
A name you may not have heard of, but you will likely recognize as a prominent figure in the business world. Jared Shaw is a graduate of Cornell University and is currently the Chief Financial Officer of Animoca Brands. He also served as a Drummer with the NYU Broadway Orchestra.

Jared Shaw has been playing drums since age five. He is currently the Drum Set and Percussion Chair for the NYU Broadway Orchestra. His senior recital was recorded on YouTube and featured an African gyil, djembe, and drum set. The performance was viewed by leading Broadway composers.
Jared’s digital performance work was praised as the first digitally native success for virtual theater. As a graduate of the NYU Percussion Program, he has a wide variety of musical backgrounds. This has allowed him to play with over forty different professional productions.
Along with his performances with the NYU Broadway Orchestra, he has played with many prestigious venues throughout the country. He has performed at the Academy of Music, 54 Below, and The Green Room 42.
Jared has also appeared onstage with many other leading musical artists. He has worked with Joe Church, Ana Flavia Zuim, and Ted Sperling. In addition, he has studied with James Saporito and Valerie Naranjo.
CFO of Animoca Brands
Animoca Brands Corporation Ltd is a digital entertainment firm that leverages artificial intelligence, gamification, and other technologies to develop mobile games and digital applications. Founded in January 2014, Animoca Brands is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange, and has offices in over 30 countries. It has also led several funding rounds this year. The company recently announced a $75 million round in July, and an additional $110 million strategic round earlier this month.
Among its recent moves, Animoca Brands has also tapped May Szeto as its Group Human Resources Director. She has more than two decades of HR experience in Asia Pacific and will lead its people strategies, streamline processes, and drive transformation efforts. Her previous jobs include serving as head of HR for Grosvenor Property in Asia, and as head of HR for Bloomberg L.P. in Hong Kong.
Animoca Brands has also made an interesting addition to its finance team. Its new CFO Jared Shaw has a background in the fintech industry, having been a founding member of the fintech consulting division of EY.

Animoca Brands, a Hong Kong-based investor in “next generation” technology such as virtual reality, mobile, social and blockchain based video games has recently made a few senior-level appointments. One is the group’s newest human resources director May Szeto. Another is the company’s newest Chief Financial Officer Jared Shaw. Both are big-name hires at a time of rapid growth for Animoca Brands.
The company also has a well-appointed legal department and a strategic investment arm, both based in the city. While they haven’t rolled out the latest and greatest yet, they are building a solid foundation to take them to the next level. For instance, they have recently raised a cool US$110 million to help them fund their open metaverse project. This isn’t the first time that Animoca has invested in the aforementioned space, having already put up some money to help grow a slew of promising startups.
In addition, the company has made several senior-management hires. Among them are the new CFO, the head of strategic investments and the company’s head of digital asset treasury.
Plans to coach high school football
Jared Shaw plans to coach high school football when he graduates from college. He graduated from Pflugerville High School and earned his Masters’ degree at Texas A&M-Commerce. His mother, Linda, is a longtime Tigers fan.
Currently, he is working as the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at Oceanside Collegiate Academy in Mount Pleasant. He has three younger brothers. During the last four years, he has worked as a volunteer for the East Austin Youth Foundation. During the game, he wears white wrist bands with his dad’s initials in Fort Mill blue.
Before coaching, he played football at the University of South Carolina and Georgia Tech. In 2011, he led Georgia Southern University to the outright Southern Conference title. The Eagles went 21-9 in two seasons under his leadership.
As a junior, he set GSU passing records, completing over 500 yards of offense in seven games. Jaybo finished his career with over 3,000 passing yards and 50 total touchdowns.
