Early life

Cary Grant was a famous actor who starred in over 70 films. He was born on January 18, 1904 in Horfield, Bristol, England. In his early years, Grant had a difficult life.

The family lived on the father’s income from a garment factory. However, after six months of working, his father lost his job. His mother stayed home to raise Grant. She also suffered from depression.

Grant became attracted to theater at a young age. When he turned 13, he decided to leave his home to join a comedy troupe. At this time, he learned acrobatics. But, he had to struggle to find his way on the film set.

Cary Grant worked on a few films during this period, including the Hitchcock film “Suspicion” and the musical “The Philadelphia Story”. His last movie was the Stanley Donen production “Charade”.

Grant’s mother had a traumatic childhood. Her brother died of tuberculosis and her mother had clinical depression. To deal with her depression, her father placed her in a mental institution.

While Grant and his mother never reunited, she cared for him financially until she died. Grant’s father eventually remarried and moved to Bristol.

Cary Grant’s first starring role was in the film She Done Him Wrong. It was a hit at the box office, but he had to struggle to find the right part.

Although he had a very successful film career, Cary Grant had a troubled personal life. He was divorced four times. Some of his ex-wives claimed that he was controlling.
