Light therapy has been widely used to treat various types of disorders, including seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and depression. However, the effects of light therapy when it comes to helping boost your testosterone and libido are a relatively recent discovery.

Researchers from the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) discovered that exposure to bright light helps testosterone levels in men.

They conducted their research with 38 men who were suffering from lower sex drive and a lack of interest in sex.

The researchers then exposed half of the men to a light box that produced bright light for two weeks. They found that those who were exposed to bright light had increased testosterone levels. The men also reported an increase in their sexual desire and satisfaction.

This type of bright light therapy works because it triggers the pineal gland in the brain, which can make the body produce more testosterone. Higher testosterone levels also translate to an increase in sexual desire.

Previous research found that sexual interest changes depending on the season, and ambient light plays a crucial role in sexual desire.

If you want to try out bright light therapy, you can buy a light box typically used to treat SAD and use it early in the morning. Going out for a walk early in the morning can also have the same effects provided that there’s enough sunlight.

If you’re looking to increase your testosterone and libido but don’t have the means to expose yourself to bright light, there’s no need to worry. There are other ways that men can increase their testosterone levels and libido naturally.

Here are some ways that you can go about it:

  • Daily exercise helps since it increases your testosterone levels and keeps you fit and healthy.
  • Eat right. Obesity can cause low testosterone levels in men. That’s why it’s important to keep your weight in check by eating right.
  • Get plenty of sleep. Being tired can have an impact on your sexual desire and make you lose interest.
  • Drink alcohol less. Alcohol causes erectile dysfunction and can be a problem in the bedroom.
  • Relax. Too much stress can lower your sexual desire and can also make it hard for you to maintain an erection.
