In 2021, approximately 81 million people in the United States were diagnosed with seasonal allergies also known as seasonal allergic rhinitis. Seasonal allergy is an individual’s allergic reaction to pollen or mold being released from grasses, trees, and weeds. Seasonal allergies are more common during spring, fall, and summer.

You might’ve heard the phrase “it’s pollen season” when someone sneezes or has a runny nose. That is a direct indication of seasonal allergies.  The severity of seasonal allergies can differ from one person to another. There are people who experience mild symptoms while there are those who experience Anaphylaxis which is a severe allergic reaction.

The important thing here is that no matter the symptoms, it is important to be mindful of what needs to be done for prevention and cure.

Here are ways to deal with seasonal allergies.

Determine your symptoms

There are instances wherein people don’t even know they are suffering from seasonal allergic rhinitis. Most people can have a dust mite allergy. So, when there is dust in the air, that can trigger an allergic reaction. That is why it is important to monitor your health and symptoms when pollen counts are high. Make sure to recognize your symptoms to know what steps you need to take.

Get the right medication

The most common medication people use to treat allergies including seasonal allergies is an antihistamine. This medication stops the chemical histamine that triggers the symptoms of allergies. In most countries, this is an over-the-counter option, so it is easy to get. However, there are a lot of options to choose from. There are antihistamines that make you sleepy and there are also nonsedating options. It is important to visit your doctor to ask for expert insight on the ideal option for you. Other people rely on decongestants, nasal sprays, and even allergy shots. Again, visit your doctor first to determine what to take.

Right food and nutrients

There are other alternatives to treating allergies. Other people rely on food that is rich in magnesium like dark chocolate, dark-green and leafy vegetables, avocados, dried beans, peanuts, and so much more. These options can help with allergy relief. If you prefer a more natural way of doing things, then eating the right food and getting the right nutrients are good for you.

Exercise, stay active

Working out daily won’t eliminate allergies nor completely stop it from infecting the body. However, an active body is a healthy body with a stronger immune system that can better fight off symptoms. There is no need for a heavy workout with this. Jogging and a couple of stretches right at home can do the trick. As a bonus, exercise can do other wonders for your health.

Beat it through natural ways

Other than food, there are different ways how to defeat seasonal allergies. For one, you can shut off the window to stop pollen from coming into your room. You can also keep your body clean and practice washing your hands regularly, especially when you just came from outside. Another good way to go is to wear a flu mask when going out. You can also purchase a nasal rinse to rinse every mucus out of your nose. Get enough sleep for a healthier body. Remember, there are so many other alternatives, that are effective when dealing with seasonal allergies.
