Do you find yourself having issues with your face’s oiliness? Do you ever get irritated with the sheer amount of shine that you have after a long day? If you do, don’t fret as there are many ways that you can control oiliness. They involve adding just a few steps to your daily grooming routine. And no, it’s not as complicated and it does not involve makeup.
Every person has a different skin type and each type requires a different skin care routine. If you have oily skin, then that means that you have larger oil glands and high sebum content. To combat that, a good hydrating routine is your best bet. We’ve put together a no-frills, easy-to-follow skincare regimen that you can do for just a few minutes. Say goodbye to having a shiny face in photos; it’s time for you to always look your best.
Cleanse
When: 2 to 3 times a day
We bet this is the only skincare step that you take. If you have oily skin, it’s best to cleanse at least thrice a day — in the morning, in the afternoon (if it’s really necessary), and before bed. Cleansing is a great way to get rid of dirt and oil and helps you prevent breakouts. When buying a cleanser, it’s best to choose oil-free, gentle-cleansing soap.
Exfoliate
When: 2 to 3 times a week, after cleansing and before shaving
Aside from daily cleansing, it’s also best to include exfoliation twice or thrice a week in your regimen. Using a scrub will remove your dead skin cells and get rid of build-up that might cause breakouts. Aside from making your skin look brighter and feel softer, it also helps with achieving a smoother shave.
Tone
When: After cleansing or exfoliating
Toning will help you collect excess dirt and oil that you might have missed after cleansing. It also preps your skin for moisturizing. When choosing a toner, we suggest that you get something light and alcohol-free, as these type of astringents can sometimes be too harsh on your skin.
Moisturize
When: After toning
Moisturizers do not mean adding another layer of oil to your face. Moisturizing is actually a way of hydrating your face and balancing its levels. Since you have oily skin, choose a lightweight cream or water-based moisturizer to avoid the extra shine.
Sunscreen
When: After moisturizing and before going out
UV rays are harmful to your face, that’s why it’s important to always have that extra layer of protection. Applying sunscreen will not only protect you, it will also help you avoid sunspots and slow down the accumulation of wrinkles. It’s okay to use whatever SPF you prefer but it is recommended to have at least SPF50. Choose a water-based sunscreen for a lighter feel.
