Becoming and staying healthy is everyone’s objective, but it can be easier said than done. It takes more than just physical and mental strength to achieve good health. Consistency, determination, and perseverance are crucial factors for getting in tiptop shape regardless of age.

We have been in those moments when we feel lazy and unmotivated for some reason. Wasting days when we are supposed to go to the gym or eat healthy may end in regret – like when your pants are tighter than before.

No worries – you are not alone. Some think they are healthy just because they are gym rats, eat salads all the time, and avoid sweets. However, don’t be deceived by physical looks. More often than not, a lot of people are not as healthy as they think they are.

Given this, taking care of your overall health should be a constant priority and not only when you are already sick. It should be mandatory to begin with – more so if you have diagnosed illnesses such as cardiovascular disease.

Just because you don’t have cancer or heart disease does not mean you are perfectly healthy. There are actually signs your body is telling you to do something about your health before it is too late. Here are some signs you are in bad shape and the ways to reverse their effects.

You are prone to colds and flu.

While we are all prone to coming in contact with disease-causing bacteria and viruses, especially when we are outdoors, a healthy individual has a strong immune system that helps fight off these pathogens. However, you should be a little more vigilant when you have colds and flu more often than usual. This may have something to do with your immune system which could put you at risk of catching potentially serious diseases.

You have irregular bowel movements.

Ideally, bowel movements occur regularly. Otherwise, waste will accumulate in your stomach and cause constipation, which can make your life hard. More than that, an irregular bowel movement means toxins stay in your body and can enter your bloodstream, potentially causing diseases and illnesses in the long run. That is why it is important to have a healthy and regular bowel movement routine to prevent these conditions.

You always feel tired.

It is normal to feel how tired you are the moment you set foot in your house after a long day at work. However, it is important to know that there may be other reasons why you feel tired. It may be due to a malfunctioning thyroid gland or chronic stress, which needs medical attention if you don’t want to make your condition worse. Feeling tired all the time should not be ignored. It may be a sign of something serious that can be life-threatening if left untreated.

You’re prone to injury, or people think you’re clumsy.

If you tend to feel cramps after a jog or twist your ankle while simply walking around, it can mean that you may need some exercise. According to fitness experts, these mini-accidents may mean that your body is not functioning properly, possibly having balance issues or muscle imbalances. That is why having regular exercise helps stretch your muscles and lessen the occurrence of body aches.

You crave junk food.

Junk food is not limited to chips and sweets. It also includes processed foods and anything with unhealthy amounts of preservatives, sugar or salt. If you tend to eat junk food often, your body will get used to it, which results in more cravings, creating a negative impact on your health.

Fitness experts say that the more you exercise, the higher the chances of curbing your appetite for junk food. While eating sweets can be addicting because they can make you feel giddy, exercise can do the same – in a healthy way, of course. If you want to be happy and fit, you should already know what to choose.

Reversing Signs

So, how can you reverse these symptoms? The truth is that it may take time – along with consistency, determination, and perseverance, as mentioned earlier. You can start by eating healthier foods. As much as possible, avoid any foods that are packed or canned because they contain preservatives that are not healthy for the body.

Exercise is also a must. Whether it’s a 30-minute walk in your neighborhood or signing up in your local gym, it’s never too late to get in shape. After all, who doesn’t want to have a longer and healthier life?
