Did you know that your brain uses a fifth of the total oxygen in your body? Several studies found that activities that boost oxygen throughout the body greatly benefit cognitive and brain function. So, the more oxygen that enters your body, the stronger your mind is allowing you to better focus. Now, how exactly does one boost oxygen levels? One way is to just breathe in air, but make sure that you are in an area free of pollution.

So, here are other ways to boost oxygen throughout your body for better brain function.

Learning breathing exercises

Breathing exercises help you breathe better by strengthening your lung capacity and allowing your body to take in more oxygen. To fully master breathing exercises would take time but time well spent. There are hundreds of applications you can download for free that will guide you throughout the entire process. There are also video tutorials online. Another way breathing exercises enhance the mind is by reducing stress. People who incorporate these exercises into their lives are reported to have better moods compared to those who don’t.

Grow plants

Do you have plants inside the house or maybe at your office table? If you don’t, then you might want to get some. Plants purify the air indoors and they release oxygen naturally. So if you spend the majority of your hours indoors, then make sure there is a plant in there and that you take good care of it because it will take good care of you by giving you an oxygen boost.

No more smoking, it doesn’t boost oxygen

If you are a smoker, it would be best that you quit. If you aren’t, then don’t ever consider smoking. Smoking can lead to a number of serious illnesses including cancer, lung diseases, diabetes, and more. Brain cancer is also one of the many risks of smoking. Studies find that smokers have a thinner cerebral cortex compared to non-smokers. The cerebral cortex helps people with critical thinking and learning.

Sit up straight, stand, and improve your posture

Lying down and not sitting right can put pressure on your lungs that stops oxygen from entering. Make standing a habit throughout your day. This is very helpful especially if you are working long hours and would sit for a number of hours. A better posture means you can stand up and sit up straight.

Add more antioxidants and iron-rich food to your diet

Iron and antioxidants allow your body to better use oxygen throughout the body. Iron enables red blood cells to function better. Antioxidants improve the oxygen saturation level of your blood. So, the next time you go to the grocery or farmer’s market, make sure to pick up some ingredients that are filled with iron and antioxidants. There are also a lot of vegan choices out there that are oxygen boosters and brain boosters.
