Last year in November, AI research and deployment company OpenAI launched the chatbot ChatGPT and in January this year, it reached 100 million active users. Today, this platform is considered one of the greatest innovations in history and is showing the strong capabilities of AI.
Are you interested in ChatGPT? Have you given it a try? If not yet, then here is your introduction to it.
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is a large language model that contains large amounts of data. In simpler terms, it is a chatbot wherein humans talk to computers or programs, in this case, AI. ChatGPT is not the usual chatbot you see on airline and store websites. ChatGPT can communicate with humans in a conversational yet intellectual way. According to OpenAI’s website, ChatGPT’s “dialogue format makes it possible for the chatbot to answer follow-up questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests.”
ChatGPT is the sibling model to InstructGPT, which focused on providing instructions to people. The latter focused on helping people get stuff done, the former has the capabilities to educate people and unlock their potential.
What can it be used for?
As it looks right now, the possibilities for the platform are endless. Most users are curious about what ChatGPT is capable of. They test it by asking a bunch of random questions and some that are of importance to them or aligned with their interests.
There have been reports of the platform being able to write articles for different topics. In fact, small businesses are using the AI tool to write content for them including blogs, social media updates, SEO keywords, and more. It is also capable of providing an outline for an entire novel.
Most recently, companies are partnering with OpenAI to utilize the platform for different processes. For example, Quizlet, a learning platform, rolled out its Q-Chat, the first-ever AI tutor powered by ChatGPT. The main idea of this feature is to allow users, mostly students and teachers to engage in tutoring with AI. Other companies are also getting into the mix including Shopify, Speak, and Brain & Company.
Despite its capabilities, ChatGPT is not perfect. It was proven that the program provided wrong answers to people. AI experts are also encouraging users to be mindful of the information generated by the platform. As per them, there can be an issue of misinformation given that most data the platform uses are from the internet. And, every piece of data or information online isn’t always accurate.
What does the future hold for ChatGPT?

The tool will surely continue to grow and expand its prowess. The latest update is the release of OpenAI’s API or application programming interface for ChatGPT. The future of this AI tool would depend on how companies across different industries utilize it. There have already been reports on how it can be incorporated into healthcare, mental health, and wellness.
One thing is for sure, there will be a lot of competition in the future. Baidu Inc., Microsoft, and Google are also working hard to get ahead of the race. It is not just the big guys. There are startups that are also joining the race. Startups would be able to experiment more freely and if they are able to maximize AI, then that would be a game-changer.
Have you tried ChatGPT yourself?
Reading this article isn’t enough to familiarize yourself with ChatGPT. More research is required, especially with new updates surfacing about the platform. The best way to really learn more about it is to give it a try.
So, if you are curious, then go for it.
