A pluot is a hybrid fruit that is a mixture of plum and apricot. The texture and skin of this fruit are similar to plum and it is a stone fruit. They are manmade and are genetically derived fruit.

The fruit was developed in 1980 by Floyd Zaiger, a fruit breeder based in California. Since it is stoned fruit, it is not easily available in fruit markets or grocery stores. Plumcot is another kind of fruit that is a hybrid of plum and apricot but it is different from pluot. This genetically blended fruit tastes way better than many other fruits.

A pluot tastes a bit sweet and sour. There are varieties of names for this fruit like Dinosaur egg, Daple Dandy, flavor grenade. Selecting it from the market is slightly tough. Once you touch it and feel a softer texture and have blemish-free skin, then it is riped and perfect pluot.

If a pluot is rough and hard do not pick it. They are available at peak season from May to September. You can even store them in the refrigerator for about a week.
