When the word “detoxing” is mentioned, most people envision taking supplements and other medications. However, detoxing should not necessarily be about getting medication. You can do it naturally at home. What you need is to reorganize your diets and include foods that will help your body to detox.

We have put together a list of 7 foods that detox the body naturally and how to take them. Apart from detoxing the body, most of these foods also provide numerous health benefits to the body. Here are 7 foods that you should try out:

1. Ginger

Ginger has been used for thousands of years as a medicinal herb as an anti-inflammatory agent. The food contains a compound called gingerols, a potent anti-inflammatory, which is great detox agent. Ginger is good for people struggling with arthritis as well as those looking for cancer-fighting foods. Studies have also shown that that ginger can be used to protect the liver and kidney from free radicals and harmful toxins due to its potent antioxidant powers. Adding ginger to your tea or water is the most effective way to get maximum detox benefits.

2. Green Foods

Organic Leafy greens are the best when it comes to body detoxification. Green foods are very effective in detoxifying the digestive tract. But you have to select foods with potent detoxifying properties. Fill your fridge with kale, spinach, alfalfa, wheatgrass, blue-green algae and other organic leafy greens. Chlorophyll in these foods rids the body off harmful toxins including herbicides, pesticides, and toxic metals amongst others. Leafy greens also contain high quantities of fiber which is crucial for a healthy digestion system.

3. Garlic

Garlic is one of the few natural foods that offer a range of health benefits to the body. It is used both as a natural detoxifier and antioxidant. Garlic contains a compound known as allicin which is a potent natural detoxifier. Allicin works by stimulating the liver to produce detoxification enzymes and thus enhance the process of detoxing. It is recommended that you add cooked or sliced garlic in your dish or make a garlic soup.

4. Lemons, Orange, and Limes

Citrus fruits are common in almost all households. They are a great source of Vitamin C. If used correctly, they are excellent natural detoxifiers. Although lemon gets a lot of attention due to its numerous health benefits, orange and limes are equally rich detoxing compounds. To get the best out of citrus fruits, timing is very critical. It is recommended that you start each morning with a warm glass of citrus fruit juice. You can choose to combine the three fruits or take one of them. However, lemon is the most recommended for the obvious reasons.

5. Grape Fruits

Grapefruit should be part of any detox diet. With its fiber and nutrient-rich juices, grapefruit is a powerful detox food to add to your diet. These fruits contain a flavonoid called naringenin that is full of detoxifying properties. However, you need to select the fruit that is rich in color, such as bright red or pink, since it indicates a high concentration of the naringenin and other detoxifying elements. The best way to get the best out of a grapefruit is by adding it to your green juice or smooth.

6. Green Tea

When detoxing the body, add some organic green tea to the diet. It is a powerful detox food that is difficult to find. Green tea contains catechins, a special type of antioxidants that increases liver function and thus enhancing the process of detoxing. It also increases body metabolism and that makes it a perfect element to add to the diet when dieting strongly. Drink the green tea warm or cold. Do not add sugar and if the flavor is a bother, you can add a little bit of raw honey.

7. Water

Water is one of the most overlooked detoxifiers. Although it is not technically a food, without it, all the above foods would be useless too. The recommended quality of water that a person must take is 5-6 cups a day for starters. As you work your way up, make it 8-10 cups a day.

Forget about the commercial detox supplements and try these foods for natural detoxing. No harmful side effects.

The foods are readily available at the grocery near you, and they are relatively cheap. If you get the right diet, you will be impressed by the results.
