If you’ve ever experienced heartburn, then you know it’s not a good feeling. Heartburn usually happens when the acid from your stomach goes up and irritates your esophagus. This causes the burning feeling, and you’ll need to drink medicine in order to remedy it.

The best way to deal with heartburn is to control what types of food you eat. Eating too much sour food, overeating, and eating greasy foods can contribute to acid reflux. So if you’re frequently eating those types of foods, it might be a good idea to cut back.

In some cases, heartburn might be caused by a condition called GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease. This disease is caused by a condition called a hiatal hernia, which prevents your esophagus from blocking the flow of acid from your stomach.

In these situations, it’s a good idea to always have some heartburn medicine with you to help deal with the effects of GERD.

If you don’t have any heartburn medicine with you, there are a number of effective heartburn home remedies that you can use as an alternative. These remedies can be pretty effective, and most people already have these at home.

7 effective heartburn home remedies

These heartburn home remedies are great for dealing with cases of acid reflux or heartburn. However, it’s still a good idea to drink a proper antacid or consult with your doctor if you have recurring acid reflux.

Baking soda

It might taste bad, but baking soda is the most effective among heartburn home remedies

Baking soda doesn’t taste great, but it does a good job when it comes to neutralizing the acids in your stomach. Swallowing a teaspoon of baking soda can help reduce the burning sensation from heartburn.

Chewing gum

Chewing gum can help increase the production of saliva in your mouth. The excess saliva you swallow helps dilute the acid in your stomach and helps reduce the effects of acid reflux.

Ginger

Ginger is one of the best heartburn home remedies, and has been in use for centuries

Ginger has been used for centuries as a remedy for heartburn. You can drink it as a tea by boiling a few slices of ginger root in water. This will help alleviate the acidity in your stomach and soothe your throat.

Licorice root

Licorice works pretty well when it comes to dealing with the effects of heartburn. Drinking licorice tea can help coat the stomach lining and protect your throat and stomach from hyperacidity.

Aloe juice

Drinking aloe juice helps cool and soothe your throat and mitigates the effect of heartburn. It might not neutralize your acid reflux, but it works well and can definitely make you feel better

Almonds

Almonds are readily available, and rank among the most effective heartburn home remedies.

The effectiveness of almonds hasn’t been confirmed, but a lot of patients said that eating almonds helped alleviate the effects of acid reflux. It might be a good idea to keep some almonds in your house, both as a snack and a remedy for heartburn.

Bananas and apples

Lastly, bananas and apples contain naturally occurring antacids that help deal with heartburn. Eating these fruits can also help soothe your throat and definitely make you feel better.
