Dark-hued tops are always a great addition to your closet — unless you have a dandruff issue. It’s irritating, embarrassing, and an undeniable outfit ruiner. We know how frustrating dealing with it can be. The problem seemingly comes out of nowhere and sadly doesn’t go away no matter what you do. Once you’ve focused on addressing it, though, you’ll see that it’s actually pretty easy to tackle. Here’s a quick and helpful guide to help you deal with this hair issue, and hopefully banish them from your life forever.

Deal with dandruff easily by cutting down hair products and choosing ones that are gentler on the scalp

What causes dandruff?

Dandruff are dead skin cells clumped together due to natural oils from our scalp. These white flaky things are usually harmless, but it is important to address them to make sure that you prevent further problems.

They can be caused by a number of things, but they are usually just because ofdry scalp or irritation from certain hair products. Other times, they can be caused by more serious skin conditions such as eczema.

How to deal with dandruff?

While dandruff feels like a big issue, especially because they are quite visible, treating it can be quite easy. If it is not caused by a more serious skin problem like psoriasis or eczema, you can get rid of it by using products you can easily get at a grocery or pharmacy. Here are some steps you can take:

Deal with dandruff by changing your products and choosing chemical free shampoos and conditioners

Choose a mild shampoo and conditioner

More often than not, dry scalp is a result of shampoos and conditioners that contain too many harsh chemicals for the scalp like paraben and sulfate. Choosing gentler products will help repair and keep your scalp and hair healthier in the long run.

Really having a hard time? Use anti-dandruff products

If you feel like this issue has gone out of hand, you can use over-the-counter products that are specifically made for treating dandruff. Shampoos containing selenium sulfide can help get rid of the flakes in no time. You can also use coal tar shampoo, but make sure to reserve this for a more severe case.

Check your hair products

Dandruff is not an issue that comes directly from your hair products like styling gel and wax, but using these items regularly may lead to scalp irritation and other skin problems. If you can’t help using styling products, make sure to avoid those that include harmful ingredients such as alcohol as it makes your scalp drier. You may also try doing a scalp scrub or rinse once every month to ensure that excess products are removed.

Keep your hair clean

Since dandruff is really just dead skin peeling from your scalp, keeping your hair clean will help keep things under control. Washing your hair regularly will be helpful in preventing further dirt build-up and is just great for your overall health and grooming.

Relax

Did you know that stress can actually trigger dandruff? So slowing down and relaxing can definitely help in addressing these problems. Try taking a break and chilling out for a bit. Your body and mental health will thank you.
