Can arthritis be cured? Unfortunately, the answer is no. Although there is no arthritis cure, it’s possible to enjoy your life through pain management. Find out the different methods you can use for arthritis treatment, including medications and natural therapies. If you were recently diagnosed with arthritis, you might be wondering, “Can arthritis be cured?”. If you’re living with arthritis, you’re not alone. At least 23% of adults in the U.S. are currently living with some form of arthritis. While flare-ups can make it hard to complete daily activities, there are different methods you can use to make it manageable.

Can Arthritis Be Cured?

Many people with the disease want to know: Is there a cure for arthritis? While there isn’t right now, there are many treatment methods suitable for all types of arthritis. Arthritis is a slow-progressing disease. It can be genetic, but it also happens from normal wear and tear in your joints over time. Since it progresses slowly, it’s more common in senior adults. While living with arthritis, you’ll experience stiffness and pain in your joints. Most people get arthritis in their wrists, elbows, feet and knees. As you live your life, the cartilage between your joints wears down over time to cause arthritis. With rheumatoid arthritis, your body’s immune system attacks itself and slowly destroys the cartilage and membranes around your joints.

Managing Arthritis Pain

When it comes to living with arthritis, one of the best things you can do is manage your pain. Since there is no arthritis cure, medicine and pain therapies can limit the inflammation and discomfort in your joints. Some of the best medications for arthritis are simple over-the-counter drugs you’ve heard of before, like Tylenol or Aleve. If your arthritis is minor, these OTC medicines can help manage your pain all day. If you have more severe arthritis, you may need to consult with a doctor for a prescription or other form of pain relief. Your doctor may recommend NSAIDs or analgesics, which are both prescription pain relievers.

Preventing Arthritic Flare-Ups

A crucial part of your arthritis treatment is changing your lifestyle to help manage pain and flare-ups. While there is no scientific cure, many patients swear by arthritis “cure” diets. Watching what you eat can help manage your symptoms to a point where it seems like a natural cure for arthritis. Some of the best foods to eat with arthritis include fatty fish and nuts that have Omega-3s. Omega-3 fatty acids are just one type of nutrient that has anti-inflammatory properties to help mitigate arthritis symptoms. Along with diet, exercise can also help treat your arthritis pain. Though it may seem counter-intuitive, low-impact exercise can help strengthen your joints to protect against arthritis.
